The 1978 ERA March in Washington, D.C. | The Largest Feminist Demonstration in U.S. History yagru 1 vistas • 1 mes hace

On July 9, 1978, tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. for the largest feminist march in American history. This video from the National Women’s History Museum explores the sights, voices, and symbolism of the Equal Rights Amendment demonstration -- from gold, purple, and white banners to powerful speeches by Gloria Steinem, Eleanor Smeal, Bella Abzug, and other leaders of the women’s movement. Bella Abzug, a former congresswoman and one of the ERA’s most forceful advocates, used her trademark energy and clarity to rally supporters and remind the nation that equality belonged in the Constitution. The 1978 ERA March marked a turning point in the national fight for constitutional equality. Protesters called for Congress to extend the ratification deadline, demanded equal protection under the law, and connected their activism to the long legacy of women’s rights movements in the United States. This short documentary offers clear, accessible context for understanding why the ERA mattered, how the march unfolded, and what it meant for the future of gender equality.Whether you are learning about the ERA for the first time or revisiting a pivotal moment in American history, this video from the National Women's History Museum provides a concise, museum‑ready look at the march that helped define a generation.Images courtesy of Wikimedia Commons and AlamyMusic from #Uppbeathttps://uppbeat.io/t/albert-behar/no-turning-backLicense code: IKVGZOMJI56NPEOXKeywords: ERA March 1978, Equal Rights Amendment history, ERA, Equal Rights Amendment, ERA March, Equal Rights Amendment march, Washington DC feminist protest, Gloria Steinem ERA, Eleanor Smeal ERA, Bella Abzug ERA, women’s history documentary, National Women’s History Museum, feminist activism history, U.S. women’s rights movement#womenshistory #equalrightsamendment #americanhistory

Warning: This report contains distressing themes and sexual languageI met Esme just 10 days after she had been sexually assaulted while travelling home on a train. She had recently shared a video on TikTok describing what had happened. Thousands of people watched it and hundreds contacted her to share their own experiences. As we spoke about the impact the assault had had on her, she told me it was the second time she had reported a sexual offence to British Transport Police using its 61016 text service. The first happened in March 2024 on a Jubilee line train near Canning Town."It was standing room only," she told me. "I looked down and there was a man masturbating on me."Despite CCTV appeals, nobody has ever been identified.British Transport Police told ITV News that while its investigation into the June 2026 assault remains ongoing, the 2024 investigation was closed after "all lines of enquiry were exhausted", pending any new information.Esme admits that has shaken her confidence.“They just have to wait and hope that maybe these people might assault you again. Or they might offend again, and they'll catch them someplace else,” she said.To understand what happens after someone sends that first text message, ITV News was given exclusive access to the force's new Violence Against Women and Girls Taskforce.Recorded offences have risen by almost 18% over the past year. British Transport Police believes that rise is being driven by more victims feeling able to report what has happened to them.---------------------------• Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj • Get breaking news and more stories at http://www.itv.com/newsFollow ITV News on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@itvnews?lang=enFollow ITV News on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itvnews/Follow ITV News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/itvnews/ Follow ITV News on X: https://twitter.com/itvnews

ICE DETAINER | A Fort Pierce man is facing sexual battery charges involving a 14-year-old, according to deputies. CBS12's Jack Wu reports. A 36-year-old Fort Pierce man is in custody following a rapid investigation by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office into a pattern of inappropriate behavior with a 14-year-old girl.Juan Alberto Guandique Sanchez was arrested and charged with three counts of sexual battery on a victim between 12 and 18 years old. Sanchez also faces a violation of probation warrant from Martin County and is being held on a federal U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer. The case began on July 6, 2026, when SLCSO patrol deputies responded to reports of alleged sexual activity between Sanchez and the 14-year-old girl. Criminal Investigations Division detectives immediately took over the case.St. Lucie County Sheriff Richard Del Toro Jr. says the victim and the suspect met in the neighborhood where she lived."This individual obviously took advantage of that situation, preying on a 14-year-old victim. So, they did have a consensual type of encounter, and then it led to multiple messages and different things like that. They then coincided with the crime happening," said Del Toro Jr.Should crimes against children carry harsher penalties?Read more: https://cbs12.com/news/local/south-florida-treasure-coast-crime-news-deputies-arrest-a-fort-pierce-man-on-sexual-battery-charges-with-a-14-year-old-st-lucie-county-sheriffs-office-us-immigration-and-customs-enforcement-ice-detainer#BreakingNews, #FortPierce, #StLucieCounty, #CrimeNews, #Arrest, #TreasureCoast, #FloridaNews, #SheriffsOffice, #LocalNews_______________Stay up to date with our social media:WPEC on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CBS12News/WPEC on : https://x.com/cbs12Subscribe to WPEC on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsIzhRSKbRtvBGsiLHfcGOA/?sub_confirmation=1WPEC Daily News Digest: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoGNi-_QL0YEz2Pqv7Thy30ageLTzR6p_WPEC CBS12 is South Florida's source for local news, weather forecasts, sports and community events spanning West Palm Beach, Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce, Stuart, Vero Beach, Okeechobee, along with the rest of the Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches.
