The former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the rape and sexual assault of one schoolgirl and the sexual assault of another. Newry Crown Court heard his offending had led him into a catastrophic descent into disgrace. He is entitled to 50% remission of his sentence, so he will actually spend seven and a half years in jail for the offences with the remainder spent on licence.
